Reflections

Reflections is an interactive installation based around the phenomena of reflections of sound and light and the process of internal reflections or thoughts. Essentially Reflections is a visual instrument in which the user can “play” video via two proximity sensors housed in perspex sheets which hang from the ceiling.

The proximity sensors measure the disturbance of an electromagnetic field which effects the playback of the videos. When the videos are in sync with each other or reflect each other the user’s image is drawn into the work in another layer of reflection via a light switching device and a sheet of glass. Reflections is an updated visual version of a famous instrument the theramin, like the theramin expression is mediated by the users’s hands and a magnetic field.
